Website
promotion
Website promotion is the continuing process to promote a website
to bring more visitors to the website. Many techniques such as web
content development, search engine optimization (also known as SEO),
and search engine submission, are used increase the traffic to a
site.
Web content development
Content development is the process of researching, writing, gathering,
organizing, and editing information for publication on web sites.
Web site content may consist of prose, graphics, pictures, recordings,
movies or other media assets that could be distributed by a hypertext
transfer protocol server, and viewed by a web browser.
Search engine optimization
Search engine optimization (SEO), a subset of search engine marketing,
is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to
a web site from search engines via "natural" ("organic"
or "algorithmic") search results. SEO can also target
specialized searches such as image search, local search, and industry-specific
vertical search engines. EO is marketing by understanding how search
algorithms work and what human visitors might search for, to help
match those visitors with sites offering what they are interested
in finding. Some SEO efforts may involve optimizing a site's coding,
presentation, and structure, without making very noticeable changes
to human visitors, such as incorporating a clear hierarchical structure
to a site, and avoiding or fixing problems that might keep search
engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more
noticeable efforts, involve including unique content on pages that
can be easily indexed and extracted from those pages by search engines
while also appealing to human visitors.
Search engine submission
Search engine submission is how a webmaster submits a web site directly
to a search engine. While Search Engine Submission is often seen
as a way to promote a web site, it generally is not necessary. Because
the major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and MSN use crawlers,
bots, and spiders that eventually would find all by themselves most
web sites on the Internet.
There are two basic reasons to submit a web site or web page to
a search engine. The first reason would be to add an entirely new
web site because the site operators would rather not wait for a
search engine to discover them. The second reason is to have a web
page or web site updated in the respective search engine. |
